Vote Lisa Raynes for RIBA Council 2015
Election Statement:
I am passionate about our profession and what we do.
I am Managing Director of Raynes Architecture, a micro practice, based in Gatley South Manchester specialising in Domestic Residential, and adaptations. Having established my business in October 2010 out of the firestorm of recession and redundancy - I have not looked back.
Promote Small Practices
As past chair of the RIBA NW SPG (Solo Practitioners Group), I am aware of the particular issues affecting small and micro-practices, and am able to champion them. Because of the quantity, diverse make-up and positive effect on local economies these practices deserve a voice on the RIBA Council.
Making Architecture accessible to the general public
As a member of the Manchester Society of Architects, I am organising Manchester Curious, a 3 day Architecture Festival in October 2015 loosely based on Open House London. I am committed to raising the profile of our profession by demystifying architecture and the role of the architect, thereby enhancing the value of using an architect.
Helping the Marginalised
As past Chairman of Women in Property North West, I have an understanding of the particular challenges facing women. I seek to help fellow architects wanting to start up or return to what is a notoriously un-work-life-balanced profession.
As a Council Member I would champion smaller practices and work to support the reputation of the profession as a whole

Testimonials
“Lisa's commitment to architects and architecture is legendary in the Manchester area and her energy has helped to enliven the local Branch and to engage younger architects practising in the city.
I anticipate that, if Lisa is elected, she will bring a similar energy to RIBA Council’s deliberations.”
Geoff Alsop, Treasurer RIBA
"I first met Lisa as an interviewee, then employee within our office in the late 1990’s. She was fresh out of UCL, young, talented and enthusiastic and keen to make her mark. She became a much valued member of our team contributing at all levels in the pursuit of a high quality architectural output. Over the years, Lisa has honed a powerful combination of design awareness and intelligence with a principled tenacity, and single minded and focussed commitment, together with a strong work ethic and a confidence to speak out, or ‘lean in’. It makes for a passionate and influential advocate of the profession and it is for this reason that I have nominated her as Nationally Elected Councillor."
Rachel Haugh, SimpsonHaugh and Partners
"Lisa is already a great asset to the architectural profession, with her passion and activism in Manchester, and I believe the RIBA would greatly benefit from experience and enthusiasm should she be elected onto the Council. I recommend her in no uncertain terms!"
Dan Leon, Square Feet Architects
"I would have no hesitation in supporting Lisa, who has proved herself a dynamic advocate of the profession, particularly in her role as chair of the SPG. Most importantly she will be in a position to champion smaller provincial practitioners, who in fact make up the majority of registered architects in the UK."
