Raynes Architecture's simple design, which involved minimum intervention, has transformed a disused warehouse into a house of prayer for the Ghanaian Christ Apostolic Church International, and its congregation can now rejoice at full volume. Working with Manchester City Council, the Raynes Architecture team, headed by MD Lisa Raynes successfully achieved planning permission for the change of use. The key requirement for the project was a large auditorium in which the congregation could celebrate in song and dance.
The site in Droylsden is sandwiched between residential properties on one side and industrial units over the road. In planning terms issues arose over loss of employment, increased transport demands and concerns about noise levels in the area. Good acoustic attenuation was key to ensuring successful planning output. Keen to work with another community group, having recently completed the restoration of Lapwing Land Arcade, Raynes Architecture reduced their fee to ensure the project could go ahead. The project team included architect Jane Leach of Raynes Architecture, Quantity Surveyor Martin Bennett of the Vinden Partnership, planning consultant Linda Wright of Planit Wright, transport consultant Lesli Speers of SK Transport as well as acoustic consultant Miller Goodall. |
