I've managed to persuade brother Dave to join me for the Summerseat Walk for Outreach. Please sponsor us for Outreach Community & Residential Services, so we can help them in their work with adults with learning difficulties and/or mental health needs. http://www.justgiving.com/Lisa-Raynes The walk is next Wednesday 29th August.
Outreach has for the past 35 years been successfully providing a range of services supporting adults with a learning disability and/or long term mental health needs, to live an independent life. Our aim is to provide person centred support to people living either in their own homes or within our residential services. Visit Outreach's new website http://www.outreach.co.uk/ Guest Blog by Laurence Grant: Hi everyone! A minute of your time.... As an avid cyclist (my friends say Cyclist Nut) and someone who works closely with communities as Director of Grant Moar Communities www.grantmoarcommunities.com I have decided to fuse the two and ride the ominous and iconic 'Manchester 100' to raise money for Outreach Community and Residential Services http://www.outreach.co.uk/ a fantastic and noteworthy charity funded organisation that have been providing a range of support services to adults with a learning disability and/or long term mental health needs for 35 years. Originally formed as a service to disabled young people from the Jewish community, they now provide long term and personalised residential and domiciliary services to all denominations and sections of the community. I shall be riding 'The Dog', my superb trusty Onix Azzuro
http://www.onixbikes.co.uk/ a 100 mile loop through Manchester and Cheshire from Wythenshawe Park along with many others and a number of my buddies from SSG Oldham Cycling http://www.goskyride.com/ShowArticle/The-SkyRide-Splinter-Group-a-shining-example-of-social-cycling You can also see a detailed map and profile of the route here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/28483 I really need your support on this in whatever way you can afford. I appreciate that with the austere climate that we all are currently experiencing twinned with the increasing numbers of people doing sponsored events that money is tight but please consider two things:
I shall no doubt be suffering a little on Sunday 2nd September (and the day after!) and ask if you could join me and 'suffer' a little too to make others' lives happier. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE 'MANCHESTER 100' click here AND HOW YOU CAN DONATE HERE: http://www.justgiving.com/Laurence-Grant Thanks so much for your support and donations! Laurence I'm on the radio tonight talking about Outreach and May the Best House Win. I'll be on Basil Herwald's show on BBC Radio Manchester at 7pm. In his Chairman’s report, Dr. Peter Elton, Director of Public Health for NHS Bury said ‘I am delighted that Outreach has been able to continue to improve the support we give to our service users whilst remaining in financial balance. It is the quality of our services that has made Outreach attractive to the Local Authorities as they have placed more residents with us.’ I hope to bring my expertise in property to the organization. ‘This is an amazing opportunity to give me an insight into housing provision for people with learning disability long term mental health needs, and help raise the bar in the future’ David Raynes, my brother and Outreach Service User, said ‘I am really really proud of my big sister that she is getting involved. Really proud and happy’ At the AGM we also heard from John Boyington CBE, Managing Director NE Manchester (Incorporating NHS Bury, NHS Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale and NHS Oldham) About Outreach Outreach is a voluntary organization that is registered with the Charity Commission. We were established in 1977 after parents/carers identified that there was a need. We provide indiviualised Residential and Community services for Jewish and non-Jewish adults with learning disabilities and/or long term mental health needs. Outreach have a Domiciliary registered Community Support Team and elen Residential Services within Prestwich and outlying areas, which encourages ordinary living and community involvement with mainstream community. People within Outreach’s care are encouraged to develop independent living skills (according to their ability) and receive support from our staff to facilitate this.
