We're trying out ASDA's 3D you modelling service to create a 7 inch maquette, doll, sculpture. First to try was my 12 year old daughter Sasha in her fencing kit. The scanner struggled with her shiny mesh helmet. Here you can see the process. The files are uploaded in to the ether and the doll will be ready for collection in 3 weeks

I had a go too. First the scanner had problems with my shiny shoes, and then it looked like I had moved slightly-it's quite unnerving to stand still for 15 seconds whilst a myriad of flashes go off all around you. I think the scanner struggled to get my glasses too. oh well-we'll see what comes out in 3 weeks time!
Here's the finished Mini me. It looks far better in the photos as it did in reality. My glasses didn't print and looked like I had black eyes. The black outfit I was wearing printed badly and the chiffon scarf looked dreadful. So I got a refund and I might have another go!
So how does this relate to what I do? what are the architectural implications of 3D printing?
So far the most practical output of 3D scanning that is relevant for me is 3D laser scanning of an existing building to create 3D and 2D survey information.
